David Moyes Has Branded Bayer Leverkusen Disgraceful Following West Hams 2 0 Europa League Quarter Final First Leg Defeat In Germany On Thursday

Moyes branded Leverkusen 'disgraceful' after West Ham defeat

David Moyes has branded Bayer Leverkusen "disgraceful" following West Ham's 2-0 Europa League quarter-final first-leg defeat in Germany on Thursday.

The Hammers boss was furious with the Leverkusen bench after they allegedly tried to influence referee Jesus Gil Manzano during the game.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Moyes said: "I have to say, I thought the Leverkusen bench was disgraceful tonight. They were constantly trying to influence the referee, and it worked. He gave them everything they wanted."

Moyes was particularly angry about the award of a late penalty to Leverkusen, which allowed Patrik Schick to score the winning goal. He said: "The penalty was a joke. There was no contact whatsoever. It's a disgrace that the referee fell for it.

Moyes' comments are likely to land him in hot water with UEFA, who have strict rules against managers criticizing referees. However, the Scot will no doubt feel that he has a point to prove after a disappointing night for West Ham.
